News from the Annual Delegate's Meeting
The Annual Delegate's Meeting was held on Saturday, January 12. Following is a quick summary of the major news from the meeting.
- Executive Officers Elected
With the exception of the Chairman position, all Executive Committee members remain in office. Dean Barnes resigned as Chairman, and Ken Schultz was elected in his place. The 2008 Executive Committee is as follows:
- Chairman: Ken Schultz
- Deputy Chair: Dave Wheadon
- Secretary: Jim Sparks
- Treasurer: Sue-Ann Wheadon
- Behind the Lines Chair: Jonathan Reynolds
- Guild Chair: Mike Kowalski
- Guild Treasurer: Teresa Gage
Also, Laura Spickerman has taken over the Newsletter Publisher position, and Kristin Gitler remains as Webmistress.
- Dues Time Again!
Dues remain at $10.00 per person for any person who is age 16 or over. Each Unit should send in a roster along with their dues for the year to the treasurer no later than the General Membership Meeting. Children under 16 should be listed on the roster, even though you are not paying dues for them, so that they can be included on the BVMA insurance.
Checks should be made payable to the BVMA, Inc., and sent to:
- Sue-Ann Wheadon
- BVMA Treasurer
- 5645 State Highway 10
- Palatine Bridge, NY 13428
Guild Members should send their checks to:
- Guild Treasurer
- c/o Teresa Gage
- 6984 Crooked Brook Road
- Utica, NY 13502-7200
The following is a note from last year, but as it is still valid information, here it is again:
Important note regarding dues & membership: There has been some confusion regarding changes regarding dues and membership that were made to the bylaws in 2005. These state that if unit dues are not paid by April 1st of each year, the Treasurer shall remove from the active rolls and insurance roster of the BVMA any unit that is in arrears after April 1st. Units inactive for one year or more will be automatically removed from the BVMA membership roster by the Treasurer. Subsequent reinstatement of an inactive unit may occur by a majority vote of the Executive Committee. This change became necessary for insurance & bookkeeping requirements. So please be sure to get your dues in!
- Annual Membership Meeting
The Annual Membership Meeting & Social will be held on Saturday, March 29th at the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown. The meeting will follow a new format this year. The approximate details are as follows: Saturday, March 29th, from 9-3pm. The meal will be pot-luck, coordinated by Toni Lasher. In the morning from 9-11 there will be a shooting match co-opted by Mike Kowalski and a shift workshop with Theresa Gage, followed by the meeting, meal and entertainment. The entertainment (music) will by provided by Rural Felicity. Watch for more details to be posted soon.
- Awards: Soldier of the Year, Officer, Musician
It's time again for our annual awards. To nominate someone for one of the awards, send an email to , with the name of the person you are nominating, and a brief explanation of why you think this person deserves the award. This does not have to be an essay, but at least a few sentences. Please send nominations in by February 5th.
- Events
The 2008 schedule was discussed and is now posted. The BVMA will be sponsoring two events, and supporting another. More details will be posted as they become available - watch the schedule.

About Email Addresses on the BVMA Site
In an attempt to stem the flow of spam to all of our inboxes, I have changed the way email addresses are displayed on the site. All email addresses are now images, and are no longer clickable. While I regret the inconvenience this causes people with legitimate reasons to email BVMA members (you'll now have to copy down the email address instead of just being able to click on it), I feel it's a step towards helping to decrease the amount of garbage that shows up in our inboxes. There are programs that spider websites and "harvest" email addresses that are linked on websites - creating an image of the email address and not linking it prevents this practice. Of course, all of the spammers that already have our email addresses are selling them right & left, so this may or may not decrease our spam levels - but I have to try! |
